Description of Services:
Works to optimize vaccine use and to control infectious diseases
Reports diseases to the Ministry of Health (mandatory reportable diseases, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act)
Provides listing of reportable diseases
Implements specific measures to control the spread of a disease during an outbreak
Provides guidelines to schools and daycares on diseases within facilities
Collaborates on infection control policies and procedures in all acute and long-term care facilities
Tuberculosis (TB) Control
Provides free tuberculosis skin tests and treatment
Offers case management, information and resources
Participates in the following groups and/or committees:
Infection Control Committees: improves coordination of emergency preparedness and contingency planning in the event of an outbreak
Northwestern Ontario Regional Infection Control Network (RICN): a network of infection control committees
